Matt Nelson—better known to the world as DJ Slipmatt—is a pioneering force in the UK rave and hardcore scene. Hailing from Loughton, Essex, Slipmatt began his musical journey in the late 1980s, spinning hip-hop and house before diving head-first into the budding rave culture.
In 1989 he teamed up with DJ Lime to form the groundbreaking duo SL2, whose seminal anthem “On a Ragga Tip” skyrocketed to #2 on the UK Singles Chart in 1992. From that moment onward Slipmatt cemented his reputation as one of rave’s true trailblazers—compiling and mixing pivotal albums, launching labels, and influencing generations of dance-floor loyalists.
Over the decades, Slipmatt has brought his blistering sets to festivals, super-clubs, and underground raves around the world—from Ibiza’s iconic venues to major UK dance events. Through it all, he has remained true to the energy, drive and sense of community that first ignited the scene he helped build.
Today, DJ Slipmatt continues to innovate—bringing seasoned expertise, unrelenting passion and deep-roots authenticity to every performance. Whether he’s unleashing hardcore anthems or charting new territories, his mission remains the same: to move the crowd, uplift the moment, and keep the spirit of rave alive.
